How much time do you spend creating content and interacting with responses, versus time spent enjoying or consuming what others have created?
Has maintaining a social media presence become a time suck?
The approach we took was to assess the people we wanted to reach and involve in our programs and activities. It also seemed important to evaluate integrated media companies, such as Meta (Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp) which often provide a synergy among their platforms. What’s more, most students, parents and the public in general know how to use these mediums to communicate. YouTube, even with it’s problematic advertising policy, is also a useful platform for publishing instructional videos.
At first, Twitter seemed useful for disseminating important news, activities and events. However, things took a turn in these past few years and it no longer holds much appeal as a broadcast medium. Discord and Mastodon have their uses, but serve too small a niche. Bluesky might also evolve into something accessible to all, however it’s still in it’s infancy.
So, for the moment, we will re-focus our effort to activate regular posts here, with corresponding updates via Instagram and Facebook as may be useful. Of course, if you’d like to know what’s on, you can always contact us!
